First (New!) Car off the Earth

The New Siemens #5 subway car is tested by running through Government

Today, the MBTA tested the first of their new subway cars during the
early morning. According to Railroad.net, testing had been ongoing for a
few weeks during off-peak hours, and while the subway was closed. At
12:22 P.M., this correspondent spotted these new cars for the first time
on the Blue Line.

These new cars were placed into revenue service on February 20th,
2008, in a special ceremony held at Aquarium Station.
